In our time of need, and against all the odds, Kevin Lemieux came through for my family. I share my experience working with Kevin here in my gratitude to him and as a recommendation for anyone in need of family law or juvenile dependency issues.
I met Kevin when I was already 5 years into a high-conflict divorce over the custody of my daughters in family court. I thought we’d reached the finish line, but instead of a settlement I was accused of a crime I did not commit. Just like that, all contact with my daughters was removed and our case was sent to juvenile court. I didn’t know what to do expect, but I never imagined the nightmare we landed in. Suffice to say, it seemed that every step of the juvenile court journey the odds were bitterly stacked against me. Worst of all I had no way of contacting my daughters or knowing if they were safe and doing OK. The concern and pain I felt from being separated from my daughters cannot be put into words. It grew with each passing day without them. Into this storm came Kevin Lemieux, the captain who guided my family safely through.
Kevin was retained to represent me, and from the start Kevin and his team diligently worked on my behalf and didn’t let up until we received the judge’s verdict at the end of the trial. Through those 5+ months working together, Kevin was consistent in that he handled everything that needed to be done in a timely manner, and he exceeded my expectations as an attorney every step of the way. I felt that Kevin was open and honest with me about what I could expect from the overall verdict in the case, and he prepared me for each court event along the way. I had the sense that Kevin and his staff, truly cared about me and my family, that what we were going through mattered. There was purpose and passion in their work. They celebrated the little wins as much as I did, and even though they did a damn good job hiding it I could tell they shared the stress along with me in the toughest moments. Kevin’s voice & manner was heartfelt each and every time he represented me to the court. It was also clear that Kevin had the most experience and legal competence in the courtroom, running intellectual circles around the other attorneys. To this point, one of the opposing attorneys had been a student in one of the legal courses Kevin teaches, and Kevin was the only attorney who brought in an expert witness to testify during the trial, which the judge said carried significant weight in the court’s final decision. During closing statements, several of the attorneys cited legal cases as precedent to argue their case, but Kevin’s alone were mentioned as carrying weight in the final decision.
Kevin was by my side as I was going through some of the worst moments of my life, treating me with kindness and keeping my spirits up with his ever-present sense of humor. And most importantly, the work Kevin did on my behalf resulted in a favorable verdict and restored my family.
It was quite the morning of celebration when the judge gave his ruling, finding the accusations to be untrue and closing the case against me. Blessings stacked on blessings and I was able to see my daughters that very afternoon. The overwhelming joy felt in that moment, all of us running, the squeeze of that first family hug, my heart will never forget it.
I thank God and I thank Kevin for that family moment, for the family moments were are now regularly spending together, and for all the ones to come.
